THE Sithole family had a bleak Christmas after their shack burnt down, leaving them homeless.
But the family from Moshimong in Hammanskraal, Tshwane, is now relieved after receiving a two-room shack – thanks to SunPower. They also received groceries.
This after Daily Sun recently published the family’s story, with the headline: Homeless after fire. At the time of fire, gogo Pauline (70) was alone at home.
Her son, Samuel (56), was around for Christmas as he does not live with gogo.
“The day the fire started I was at a friend’s place and asked my two kids to fetch my phone at home,” he said.
He said they then received a call that the shack was on fire.
“When I got to the shack, I found it in flames. The neighbours luckily took my mum out, and I’m so thankful for that.”
Samuel said gogo was taken to hospital and is doing well.
The family lost everything in the fire, including gogo’s wheelchair, and they had to stay with a neighbour.
“We don’t know what caused the fire,” said Samuel.

Neighbour Grace Malaudzi was one of the people who helped gogo. She later asked her colleagues to donate a place for gogo.
“They agreed to help and we found her a shack. She will be moving in soon. We also donated groceries. My wish is for gogo to get help from social welfare because she can’t live alone,” she said, adding that more donations would be welcomed.
