GOGO Margaret? Sithole of Soshanguve block P, Tshwane, celebrated her 100th birthday with her family on Sunday, 17 July.

She attributed her long life to reading the Bible and being respectful to her elders.

Gogo Margaret said the best decision she ever made was to dedicate her life to her church.

She said that when some of her peers went to taverns and others played dice and cards, she stayed home to sew clothes.

“I hated people who spend their days drinking and playing cards,” she said.

The elated gogo said it has always been her dream to live longer and see her family grow to be as big as it is.

“I am a happy person right now.

“My family has grown and they all love each other, just like taught them,” she said.

Gogo’s first born son, Emmanuel Ramal (83), said he’s that happy he was able to be part of his mother’s 100th birthday celebration. He said his mother has been the anchor of their family.

“I thank God for keeping her until this age.

“My life has been easy to manage because I have a mother who always stood by my side,” he said.

Gogo’s only daughter, Rebecca (68), said: “She took care of us alone. She worked as a domestic worker so that we could go to school.”

Gogo had seven children, but two have died. She has been blessed with 30 grandchildren and 25 great-grandkids.
