IN THE midst of the disaster left by the floods in Moretele Local Municipality in the North West, the victims have received assistance through the Gift of the Givers.
Moretele Mayor George Manyike was joined by the Gift of the Givers, who donated 260 food parcels, cleaning material, 150 mattresses, clothes and more to the affected communities on Wednesday, 10 November.
This after 500 households were affected when their houses were flooded and damaged by heavy rain that started on Sunday.
Daily Sun published a story headlined, “Mathata fela in the kasis” on Thursday.

Manyike committed that the municipality would give continuous support to the affected families until their lives are fully restored.
For internal roads, the municipality has formed a working partnership with Public Works.
“Machines will be outsourced to fasten the damage done by the floods on our internal roads,” he said.
He said the people’s problems are theirs as well.
“The Good Samaritans Gift of the Givers called me and said they wanted to help,” he said.
Johanna Lefoka (52), who is a flood victim from Vontin in Moretele, North West, said the floods have caused a lot of damage at her house.
“We are happy for what we received as help. We are also very thankful for the media because if it wasn’t for them, these people wouldn’t have known about us,” she said.
Samuel Nkhaki (36) from Bosplaas West, whose mud house collapsed due to the floods, said he’s happy at the municipality’s quick response.
“I have been given food parcels and I am happy. I know that unemployment is very high these days and this will be helpful to my son as well,” he said.
Another victim, Samson Monyayi, from Syferkuil in Moretele said he was very thankful for what they have received.
“We thank the media so much and the community as well who have helped us during this trying and sad time.”
