THE police say if you see something, say something as communities celebrate the New Year.
National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, encourages all people within the borders of Mzansi to celebrate New Year’s Eve responsibly.
"As usual, the police will provide increased visibility with multi-disciplinary and integrated operations to ensure the safety of all people in the country," he said.
He said the police, together with other law enforcement agencies, will ensure increased visibility on our streets, in public places such as parks and beaches, railway stations, taxi ranks and malls.
"Roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle checks, compliance checks at liquor shops, second-hand goods dealers, gun shops and shops selling fireworks will continue.
"We advise caution in the use of fireworks and appeal to the public to use fireworks responsibly and not allow children to handle them," he said.

Masemola said people need to be responsible when celebrating the start of the New Year.
"Monitor your alcohol consumption and don’t drink and drive. People who are heavily intoxicated are often victims of crimes such as robbery, rape and assault, which they often have no recollection of. It's important to be responsible. Masemola said.
He said police are deployed to track down wanted suspects and search for illegal and unwanted firearms and illegal goods.
Tonight, General Masemola will join Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili and Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela to monitor New Year’s Eve celebrations in and around identified hotspots in Gauteng.
He urged communities to continue reporting suspicious activities to the Crime Stop Number at 0860010111.
