ACTING Free State Social Development MEC Thabo Meeko said the continous reports of the killing and abduction of women and children in the province is giving him a headache.
The recent shocking incident includes the abduction and killing of Machaka Radede (16), Khethiwe Nkambule, a Beinvlei High School teacher and the mysterious disappearance of Lerato Masiu, as well as Lesego Mamello Motaung.
"There's a stubborn persistence of gender-based violence in the province. The department is nevertheless alive to the sad reality of women and children being abducted and senselessly killed," he said.

Meeko pleaded with parents and children to be alert to the dangers currently confronting the community.
"We call on parents to monitor the movements of their children and their participation on social media. Also, be wary of strangers around children," he said.
Meeko said they are outraged by Machaka's death, whose body was found with a stab wound in phase 9 Bloemfontein.
"Machaka's abductors had the temerity to demand money in exchange for her safe release," he said.
The police have launched an intensive investigation in the cases of Lesego and Lerato, who were allegedly victims of abduction. The province also mourns the senseless killing of social worker Jessica Nombulelo Michael from Koffiefontein.
"We wish to convey our deepest condolences to her colleagues, family members and the community of Koffiefontein. We view that perpetrators of this senseless crime ought to be found and brought to book for the deplorable and inhumane crime.
"As the department, we will closely monitor and keep in touch with the police in regards to the investigation to ensure those who are responsible are brought to book and face the strong arm of the law. We wish to also implore community members who might have information that may help the police in their investigation to please contact the nearest police station," said Meeko.
