COPS in the Free State are searching for two suspects who allegedly shot and dumped their hijack victim in a graveyard.
According to police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng, a 34-year-old man from Roodepoort, Gauteng was travelling in his car when he allegedly stopped at a hiking spot on Friday, 15 December.
“He was approached by two unknown African males who asked for a hike to Sebokeng and then he was pointed at with a firearm and forced to get inside his vehicle.
“The suspect with a firearm was sitting in the back seat while the assailant without a firearm was sitting on the front passenger seat. He drove until Kroonstad where he was instructed to pull over to park beside the road,” Thakeng said.
The suspect was allegedly dumped at a graveyard and shot him.

“He was tied up in both his hands and forced inside the boot of his vehicle. They made a U-turn towards Kutloanong near the graveyard and taken out of the boot. One shot was fired and he was abandoned there. The two suspects sped off with his vehicle to an unknown destination.
“The following items were robbed: a wallet containing a driver’s licence, ID smart card, medical aid card, student card from the University of Joburg, wedding ring valued at R13 000 and vehicle worth R120 000. He managed to untie himself and stopped the passing vehicle and he was taken to Odendaalsrus Police Station to lay a charge at about 6pm on the same day of the incident,” he said.
Thakeng said a case of carjacking, kidnaping and attempted murder were registered for further investigation.
“Motorists are sternly warned not to give a lift to anyone to curb these carjacking, robberies and rape of victims. Even the hikers should not enter into vehicles they don't know,” Thakeng said.
