The scene where four wanted suspects were gunned down.

FOUR wanted suspects thought they could evade arrest by hiding in another area.

But little did they know that cops would hunt them down and find them.

And when the police stormed the rented house where the suspects were hiding, a gun battle ensued, and it led to the deaths of four suspects.

Four suspects wanted for various violent crimes, including murder, were shot and fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police at Cato Manor, KZN on Thursday, 28 March.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers attached to the provincial stabilisation team received information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspects.

"The suspects were cornered in a room they had rented on Standard Road in Cato Crest," he said.

He said when the police announced their presence, the suspects opened fire and an officer was saved by a bulletproof vest when the suspects shot at him.

"The police returned fire and all four suspects who were in the room were shot and fatally wounded. Two firearms were found in the suspects' possession," he said.

He said the suspects, who are from Inanda, were also wanted in connection with a homicide in which a 27-year-old man was shot and killed on the night of 23 March 2024 on Molver Road in Cato Crest. The suspects are believed to have fled the Inanda area after realising police were on their trail.

"The police officer who was shot did not suffer any physical injuries. However, he will be given every psychological support to deal with the trauma of his near death," he said.
