RESIDENTS of Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni, feel they are being abused by Eskom.
They say the power utility has introduced what they call network shedding without their consent.
This means that they will not have power on some days because they are accused of buying fong kong electricity.
Angry residents have been protesting since the weekend, demanding that Eskom stops implementing the system.
Residents told Daily Sun that in a meeting they had with Eskom earlier this month, they agreed that they will stop buying fong kong electricity.
But they requested a grace period until the end of the month.
“Instead of Eskom sticking to the agreement, it has started switching off electricity,” said resident Virginia Sikwela.
They say the electricity in their area keeps on going off at any time.
Some areas in the kasi have been without electricity for days.
Residents said they will continue to protest until their grievances are addressed.
“If the mayor can visit Tembisa, why can’t she come here to listen to our grievances?
“We also have issues. Maybe she can speak to Eskom,” said resident Nkosinathi Sihlahla.
In Tembisa, a protester died two weeks ago as residents were protesting over being over-billed and having power cuts.
This led to Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell visiting the kasi to address residents.
Eskom spokeswoman Amanda Qithi said they’ll look into the residents’ complaints.
