accreditation

A FAILED robbery has ended in tears for five alleged robbers who were arrested shortly after staging a business robbery at Pick n Pay supermarket in eMkhondo, Mpumalanga, on Thursday, 1 September.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said a group of armed men, aged between 30 and 49, stormed into the store at around 1pm and held victims at gunpoint.

“They then robbed them of several items, including cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects then fled the scene with the stolen items in a VW Jetta,” Mohlala said in a statement.

He added that cops were alerted to the robbery and a manhunt was launched.

“The members spotted the vehicle on the N12 Road near eMkhondo. The car, occupied by four men, was stopped and a search was conducted,” Mohlala said.

Cops reportedly found the suspects in possession of three firearms with ammunition as well as some cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The four were arrested, and members managed to obtain information that led them to the fifth suspect, believed to be part of the group,” Mohlala said.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Piet Retief Magistrates Court on Monday, 5 September. They are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
