HER indumba was set alight last year by a man who used to threaten her.
This time, another fire that started at her neighbour’s shack in SST section in Khayelitsha, Cape Town on Sunday, 4 December, partially destroyed her indumba.
But Sangoma Lomile Morie (35) believes her ancestors fought for her indumba.
“The fire destroyed my indumba just a little bit, but my muthi survived. My ancestors fought for their muthi. That’s why it didn’t burn to ashes,” she said.
Lomile said she was at an event with other izangoma when she received a call that her shack was on fire.
At first she thought it was vutha, but she was told the fire started next door and moved to her shack.
Residents put out the fire.
She said it appears that the fire is following her everywhere, as this was not the first time she is affected by one.

“In November last year, a fire destroyed my indumba and my muthi at another location.
“My shack was burnt by a drug addict who was threatening me.
“He banged on the induba door while I was inside with a client.
“I ignored it, but a month later he set my indumba alight.
“When I asked him why he did it, he said he did it ‘nje’. I was hurt,” she said.
But Lomile didn’t open a case against the man as people had told her that he was mentally ill.
“I had to let it go because people said he was mentally ill, so it was pointless to report him to the cops.
“I also knew my ancestors would fight for me.
“I then rebuilt an indumba at my house,” she said.
As the one that was burnt last year was next to the Japhta Masemola main road,” she said.
