A fatal truck collision claimed the life of a university student.

A TRAGIC incident happened on Tuesday, 31 October, near the University of Venda (Univen) in Limpopo.

A 25-year-old female student identified as Judith Chauke met her untimely death in a collision involving a moving truck just opposite the Univen campus in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, at approximately 5.30pm.

It is alleged that this devastating incident happened when a truck lost control, resulting in a collision that led to the victim's fatal injuries.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Sanele Masondo, a student at Univen, expressed her deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, and the entire university community.

"We have suffered a significant loss. To show our support and compassion as students and the University of Venda's Student Representative Council (SRC), we have visited the grieving family,” she said.

Tidimalo Chuene, the spokeswoman for Limpopo Transport and Community Safety, said a Mercedes-Benz heavy motor vehicle lost control and collided with a Hyundai Atos.

“Sadly, the incident resulted in the loss of one life, while another driver sustained moderate to severe injuries, and a third driver sustained minor injuries. A possible cause of the incident was cited as reckless driving," she said.

Limpopo police spokesman Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the incident and said that the Thohoyandou cops were investigating a culpable homicide case.

"The police were notified by the community members about a truck which lost control and knocked the said victim against the fence, and she died at the scene," he said.

Mashaba said the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Judith's family members expressed their unavailability to comment on the matter at this time.
