THE family of slain ANC councillor, Thabo Ngwenya said it can't rule out that his assassination may be politically motivated.
The 35-year-old, who was also the chairman of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee in the Nkomazi Municipality, was shot and killed on Tuesday night, 2 April at his home in Mangweni, Nkomazi.
It is reported that four suspects wearing balaclavas entered his home and reportedly shot at him twice, then assaulted his wife.
The suspects also robbed the victims of their cellphones and a bakkie, which they used as a getaway car.
Ngwenya's grandfather, Solomon Ngwenya said the family was devasted by the incident.

He said if the police arrested the killers, it would bring them relief.
"We're suspecting that this is politically motivated. We haven't heard of any threats before but won't rule out that his murder might be politically motivated. We've seen councillors being shot and killed in other places. This wasn't just a crime," he said.
Angry residents of the area have since torched the house and car belonging to a man believed to be part of a syndicate involved in the theft of bakkies which are then sold to buyers in Mozambique and Eswatini.
