THE brother of slain Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer, Linda Nombulelo Mthikhulu recalled how he received a call about an assault incident at his home in Dobsonville, Soweto, before his sister was shot and killed.
Linda was allegedly shot multiple times by one of the three policemen who had followed her son Yolo (27) home on Saturday, 6 April, after accusing him of reckless and negligent driving.
Her brother, Nkululeko recalled how he received a call informing him that Yolo was assaulted by cops for failing to stop when told to.
Nkululeko said he was informed that one of the cops, wearing a long jacket, allegedly became aggressive during the commotion with Yolo. The family heard the commotion and came out of the house.
“My mum and sister went outside. She was allegedly slapped and thrown into a police van for interfering. She was in her pyjamas at the time. Police kicked and trampled on Yolo,” he said.
He said Linda was also slapped by the officer.
“She ran to the house to get her gun and the cop chased after her. He shot her while she was holding the gun. He kept shooting even when she was lying down,” said Nkululeko.
“She was shot in her leg for telling the neighbours to move backwards because the police officer seemed dangerous. My nephew told me after his mother was shot, he ran to and called her by name. She only looked at him, and that was it.”

The officer allegedly used up all his bullets, and when he wanted to reload his gun, he another colleague intervened.
According to neighbhours, Linda reached for her pistol after she was kicked and nearly got shot between the house and backrooms.
“When neighbhours saw this guy pointing a gun at her back, they saw bullets fly in the air as he mercilessly shot at her,” said Nkululeko.
It's alleged that after the officer was informed he shot another cop, he lost it and went up and down, threatening people not to come closer to the scene. This is when he called for back-up.
The family said they are confused and need clarity on what caused the officer to act in that manner.
Ipid spokesman, Phaladi Shuping said the matter is under investigation.
