A COUNCILLOR is fighting for his life in hospital after he survived a tragic incident in which his entire family was wiped out.
The family of the DA Councillor Michael Buthelezi from Bergville, southern KZN, was sleeping when their house suddenly caught fire on Sunday, 29 October.
It's alleged that two explosives were thrown into Buthelezi's house, resulting in the house burning down along with the family.
Buthelezi's wife and three children burnt to death while Buthelezi suffered burn wounds and was rushed to hospital where he is in a critical condition.
The DA KZN leader Francois Rodger visited the Buthelezi family in Bergville as well as the hospital where Buthelezi was admitted.

Rodger told Daily Sun this was a tragic incident, and it was very sad.
He said the DA in KZN will be approaching the provincial SAPS Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to start acting on the violence that’s gripped the province.
"Crime, in its various forms, has become synonymous with our province which has earned itself the title of 'Crime Capital'," said Rodger.
He said despite the clear indications that this was a deliberate attack, as also supported by first-hand accounts from Councillor Buthelezi who’s recovering in hospital, the DA was surprised that police were merely investigating an inquest.
"During our visit at the Buthelezi home, we also found that police had not cordoned off the property - a crime scene where lives were lost. As the DA, we have highlighted an out-of-control element that has resulted in immense bloodshed and we say 'enough'.
The KZN cops spokeswoman Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that an inquest was being investigated by the Bergville police.
