COME have fun under the sun at iSimangaliso Wetland Park but don’t bring booze to the beach.
Located away from big cities, the management warns visitors that they will be tough on law breakers and if found with booze you won’t be allowed in some parts of the park.
The park marketing and brand manager, Thandi Shabalala said this during their festive launch on Saturday, 16 December at uMthoma Boardwalk in St Lucia in Mtubatuba, north of KZN.
“This is the busiest season in the park, but we want to ensure that everyone who visits us is safe. We don’t allow alcohol in some parts of the park. We saw in the past that alcohol has caused danger,” said Shabalala.
She said most of their beaches are located in protected areas which means that there is not much done to it including putting shark nets.

“We don’t have a net hence we are emphasising that people must come to swim with sober minds so that they will take instruction from life guards.
"But we want people to come in numbers to enjoy their festive season in our park which offers almost everything including boat cruise, whale tour, horse riding, game drivers and more,” said Shabalala.
Visitor, Themba Zikode (43) from Richards Bay, north of KZN said he decided to take his family on a mini vacation to do different activities and swim in the ocean as Richards Bay’s beach is currently not safe to swim in.
“This is our first time coming here but we are loving it already. I think I will have to convince my entire family to make this our new December home. I am looking forward to a game drive and I am sure my children will learn so much,” said Themba.
Another visitor, Lihle Ntombela (19) said she loves to come to Jabula Beach to cool off and commended the park for making sure that alcohol is restricted because there are no drunk people bothering them.
“I am enjoying my December so far and I will come back again maybe on Christmas Day and New Year's Day because the park is clean and well maintained,” said Lihle.
