IT LOOKS like the eThekwini Municipality workers couldn't wait to start enjoying braai meat this festive season.

This is because two workers were caught on camera, busy braaing some meat at the back of a moving municipal truck.

But things turned sour for them because instead of enjoying their meat, they were suspended.

Photos surfaced on social media on Thursday, 7 December, showing two workers, wearing dark pants and red T-shirts, standing and braaing meat on the moving municipal truck.

The photos were captured by a motorist who was following the truck.

The green municipal truck was spotted travelling through the busy CBD.

Social media users were left in disbelief and expressed shock, while others laughed at the bravery of the workers.

When the municipality heard and saw the trending pictures, they released a statement revealing that they had suspended the workers.

Municipal spokeswoman Gugu Sisilana said the matter is under investigation.

"As a matter of principle, the city doesn't discuss internal investigations and doesn't discuss employer-employee related matters with a third party,” she said.

Sisilana confirmed that the man in the photo was employed by the city’s water and sanitation unit.

“He has been served with an immediate precautionary suspension while an internal investigation is underway."

The statement further stated that the employee was charged internally with municipal property theft and unauthorised usage of a municipal vehicle.

The employee wasn't on official duty when he was caught in possession of the electricity cables.
