AN eThekwini municipal worker is in hot water.

This after he was recorded drunk and asleep in the municipal van parked at Watercrest Mall in Waterfall, Durban, on Friday 12 January.

In a 1:34 second video, the apparently intoxicated man can be seen sitting in the van with the vehicle door wide open. The van is also not parked properly. The man does not wake up even when the person who records the video is near him.

Following this video, the eThekwini Municipality released a statement and said it was shocked and appalled by the incident seen in the viral video that has surfaced.

The city manager Musa Mbhele clarified that service delivery is a priority and that the misuse of municipal resources is not acceptable under any circumstances and in any way.

"The municipal vehicle in the viral video is currently parked safely in the car park depot,” he said.

However, he said that as a matter of principle, the municipality does not discuss internal investigations or speak to third parties about matters related to the employee site.
