LOAD shedding returns with stage 2 on Tuesday morning, 2 January.
This was announced by Eskom on Monday, 1 January.
"Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday. Thereafter, stage 3 load shedding will be implemented until 05:00 on Wednesday, 3 January 2024," said the power utility.
Many would have liked the lights to stay on as they did during the festive season, but Eskom maintains that the introduction of load shedding is necessary.

According to the power utility, this pattern of level 2 load shedding in the morning and level 3 load shedding in the evening will be repeated daily until further notice.
Eskom said it would monitor the power system closely and communicate any changes should this be necessary.
The power utility said: "Unplanned outages currently at 16 231 MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 8 451MW.
"Eskom teams are working tirelessly to ensure that 4 921 MW of generating capacity is returned to service before the end of the week. Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand on Tuesday is 23 011MW."
Residents are also urged to use electricity sparingly and efficiently. This includes switching off geysers and pool pumps between 5pm and 9pm, as this will reduce demand and help to reduce pressure on the electricity grid and cause fewer load shedding events.

"The current intensified maintenance aimed at improving the fleet performance we had a setback of three generating units (2 148 MW) not being able to come back online as anticipated. This, coupled with a loss of six generating units (3 113 MW) and the projected increase in electricity demand, requires stage 2 load shedding from 05:00 on Tuesday until 16:00, followed by a stage 3 load shedding until 05:00 on Wednesday," Eskom said.
