A TEAM of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Philadelphia Station in Moutse, Limpopo, fell prey to a ruthless attack by unknown armed suspects on Wednesday morning, 17 January.
It's alleged that the team was ambushed and robbed at gunpoint of their personal belongings, including cellphones, jewellery, and money.
The incident occurred while the crew responded to a false distress call from Kgobokwane Village in Dennilton.
According to the information, upon their arrival at the said location, the team encountered two men who entered the ambulance to take them to the supposed scene.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that on arrival at the said address, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm, and suddenly, two other suspects emerged from nowhere.
“The suspects forced the victims into the back of the ambulance, and they drove to an unknown location where they robbed them of their valuables. One of the crew members was forced to transfer money using her banking app, after which the suspects fled the scene,” said Ledwaba.

The victims reported the incident at the local police station, and a case of armed robbery was opened.
Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba condemned this shameful act. Ramathuba emphasised that it not only endangers the lives of dedicated EMS workers but also compromises their ability to respond to genuine medical emergencies promptly.
"The safety and security of our EMS personnel are paramount, and any attack on them is an attack on the entire healthcare system and the community we serve. We cannot tolerate such violence against those who are committed to saving lives and providing vital healthcare services to our communities," she said.
Acting provincial police commissioner Major-General Jan Scheepers has ordered a massive manhunt for the suspects.
"We strongly condemn this incident, and we appeal to the community to come forward with information that can assist the police in their investigation," said Scheepers.
