AN unsung hero has received top honours.
Elvis Seroka scooped two awards at the South African Heroes Awards held at Joburg Theatre on Saturday, 30 September.
He won the Special Care and Community Builder awards.
“I dedicate the awards to my sister, Kgotlelelo Seroka, who inspired me to look after her. She was born with autism.
“Through her, we as the family managed to turn our house into a centre. God had plans that through Kgotlelelo, we could change the lives of many people living with disabilities,” he said.
Elvis (33) said the awards show that their hard work has been recognised.
“It was wonderful to receive such accolades in the presence of my father, Thomas Kghwetiane and my mother, Mailane Seroka.
“We were happy that I was nominated, but we never thought we would receive two awards,” he added.

Elvis thanked the people who voted for him.
The unsung hero from Jane Furse, Limpopo, is the founder and managing director of Maretlagadi Welfare Centre.
The centre was established in 2016. It caters for children living with disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy.
The fifth instalment of the South African Heroes Awards honoured Mzansi’s unsung heroes.
Among those who were honoured are the founder and CEO of Cheeky Media and Cheeky Pictures, Yusuf Stevens, who received the Leader of Influence honorary award, and Diana Marcellin Musara who is the director of Earthly Touch Solution, who received the Green honorary award.
The prestigious awards were founded by media personality Amanda Matshaka to celebrate ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things to empower communities.
