THE SABC has announced the Umhlobo Wenene FM changes for the new radio year.

There are not many changes to the weekday 6am to 6pm line-up.

Actress Lusanda Mbane will now co-host 123 Pholaz with Amaza Ntshanga. Previously, she was the cost-host of Vuka Mzantsi.

Monday to Friday schedule include the extension of Ufundo Lwencandi, which will now broadcast from Monday to Thursday at 10pm.

Inkolo ye Islam is moved from its early Sunday morning slot to Friday at 4.30am.

Gudla Bangi’s maskandi show Lavuth’ iBhayi will take over the Saturday 7-10am slot, which is currently occupied by Vuka Mzantsi.

It will be followed by a new show called Ezezolo, which focuses on classic hits and will be hosted by Elvis Mali.

Well-known radio presenter Sisa Maxakana will join the station and host Ezolimo on Saturdays between 4.30 am to 5am.

Sports presenter and and commentator Okuhle Kezile will join Lavuth’ iBhayi as the sports host.

Reverend Akhona Gxamza will join Inkolo Nengqiqo as a permanent contributor, starting on Sunday at 5am.

Loyiso Bala, business manager of Eastern Cape Combo, said he has confidence in the changes.

“The station takes pride in attracting seasoned and versatile talent who complement the station’s diverse audience. We are certain that this line-up will cement our place as one of South Africa’s top radio stations and express our promise that we radiate a sense of genuine, deep friendship with our listeners,” he said.

The station is also going digital, with a digital team that will produce audio-visual content to improve the station’s visibility on all digital platforms, as well as a content team.

The changes will start from 1 April.
