GOGO Penny Mthethwa has addressed an issue society has been grappling with recently.
She spoke at the Women's Month celebration held over the weekend at the Welgedacht Stadium in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
Gogo Penny said: "High lobola price leads to abuse of abomakoti. Abusers tend to think that because they paid a lot of money, they own their wives and can do whatever they like. So, parents, stop selling your daughters."
The event also addressed gender-based violence, which is a big problem in Mzansi.
Gogo said most married women chose to stay in these abusive marriages because a high lobola price has been paid for them.

At the same event, the women who are community builders were awarded certificates and trophies.
Station commander Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe awarded the community patrollers from the Springs cop shop first aid certificates.
One of the organisers, Ramothakhi Maqabe, said their next step is to recruit young girls to take part in different sporting codes.
"Our aim is to encourage girls to make good choices, remove them from the streets and fight teenage pregnancy," he said.
