THE couple had set Sunday, 10 December as their wedding day in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

The couple, who had been together for 28 years, were in the process of preparing for their big day when the husband-to-be, Godfrey Maboi (49) sadly got involved in an accident on Saturday, 2 December and has been hospitalised since.

So, when the staff at Far East Rand Hospital in Springs heard about their story, they arranged that the couple gets married in the ward on Sunday morning even with Godfrey still in bed.

And it was a happy day for Paulinah Mogale (44) who never thought she'd see the day. But accompanied by their pastor, the bride and groom finally exchanged their vows.

Their families joined the ceremony virtually through video calls, while the hospital staff sang and ululated for the newlyweds.

Gauteng Health and Wellness MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko congratulated the newlywed couple and wished them well in their marriage.

She said this gesture by Far East Rand Hospital not only provided solace and joy to Godfrey and Paulinah, but also showed the dedication of the hospital staff in fostering an environment of compassion and understanding.

She said:

"Their story is an inspiration to many that irrespective of the obstacles one encounters in life, there's always a way."

Nkomo-Ralehoko appreciated the staff for helping out.

“This is the culture of service we are trying to foster across all public health facilities,” she said.

"The Gauteng Department of Health joins the families, friends and loved ones of Godfrey and Paulinah in celebrating their union and wishes them a lifetime of happiness, love and prosperity."

The couple hopes to have a proper wedding once Godfrey is discharged.

Paulinah, who couldn't contain her joy, said: "I'd like to thank the management and staff of Far East Rand Hospital for their support and commitment for making sure this day happens."
