SBULELE Mvoloza is worried about her husband, Welcome, who left home on Thursday, 7 December to go to work, but never came back.

Welcome is one of the mineworkers held underground as part of a sit-in at GoldOne Mine in Springs, Ekurhuleni.

Sbulele (36) from Slovo Park in Springs said she's devastated about the situation.

"I haven't slept since Friday, 8 December. The kids are asking me about their father. I'm worried because it's been days without seeing him," she said.

She said she wants her husband to come back home alive.

"We are concerned about the workers’ health because we don't know what is happening underground,” she said.

The mineworkers have been staging a sit-in underground since Thursday, 7 December in support of the more than 70 workers who have been dismissed by the mine.

The workers were dismissed while some were suspended amid the first sit-in protest underground in October 2023. The workers wanted the company to recognise the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) to take over from the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).
