COPS arrested three thugs for business robbery in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 9 January.
Police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela said their members were on patrol around Edenvale, Voortrekker, near St John when they noticed a suspicious Mercedes-Benz with no less than five occupants.
She said cops decided to stop and search the vehicle.
"One occupant alighted from the vehicle with a firearm in his hand. The members pointed him with firearms, and he retreated to the vehicle, and they sped off."
Sekgobela said a chase ensued, and the suspects started firing some shots at the police, and the members retaliated.
The suspects drove into one of the companies in Edenvale and abandoned the car.

"The officers called for a backup, and three suspects were cornered after jumping into the back of the premises. Two firearms with serial numbers filed off and the vehicle were recovered.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had just committed a business robbery in Meadowdale shopping centre, and the vehicle was used as a getaway car," said Sekgobela.
She said the suspects are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major-General Anna Sithole thanked the members for their relentless efforts in recovering unlicenced firearms to ensure that criminals don't have space to breathe in Ekurhuleni.
