IN 2014, Sophia Kgosi Mofokeng had a dream of owning a health clinic and for her to realise her dream, she knew she had to sacrifice and save money.
Nine years later, the 48-year-old from Sunward Park in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni saw Somo Primary Healthcare Clinic open its doors in Sandton in July 2023.
She said the clinic was opened in her birthday month.
“Opening the clinic made me realise that it's possible for one to achieve something in life. It was my birthday gift to myself. I had to work hard and now it has paid off. Studying nursing and now owning a clinic is a wonderful achievement,” said Sophie.
She said she has learned that anything is possible for everyone to achieve their dreams.
“My advice to everyone is to pursue their goals and dreams and not to give up. We all started somewhere in life and through hard work and persistence we can fulfill our dreams," she said.

Sophie qualified as a nurse in 2002 and did her PHC in 2005. She completed her MBA in 2017.
She said she will open another branch in Boksburg soon.
"When I was doing community health practicals at clinics, I could see that clinics in our townships are always full. Some people don't want to wait in long queues to get services. Opening private clinics that are affordable for our community helps them get health services that are available at their doorsteps," said Sophie.
She said her love for nursing comes from her late grandmother, Elsie Kgosi.
“My mother died when I was 11 years old and my grandmother raised me and my siblings in Lekaneng Section in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni. I dedicate my success to my grandmother, she taught us to respect and be able to stand for ourselves," said Sophie.
