HE was told there was money at a house in Putfontein, Ekurhuleni.
So, he went to the house with the intention to steal the money.
But things didn't go as planned for the 32-year-old man as he was caught by residents.
They moered the thug, put two tyres around him and just when they were about to set him alight, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg precinct officers arrived and saved him.
The incident happened on Friday, 5 April.

EMPD spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said Metro cops found the man with two tyres around him and with his hand tied.
"The suspect was accused of housebreaking by the angry community members of Putfontein. An EMPD officer who spoke to concerned community members said the suspect broke into a house on Geldenhys Road, but was caught by residents.
"Officers found the suspect with the suspected stolen goods and a complainant, who was at the scene, confirmed she was the house owner and recovered the items. When questioned, the alleged suspect admitted to the offence and stated that he was told by an unknown person that there was money at the said address," she said.
Thepa said the suspect was immediately arrested.
"EMPD encourages members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to rather call the authorities," she said.
