THE Eastern Cape police are investigating cases of murder after eight people were killed and one injured in two separate shooting incidents in KwaNobuhle on Thursday, 13 October.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police attended the first shooting incident at around 11.45am in Mabi Street, where the bodies of four men were found inside a Mazda 323.
“All sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. A fifth man was lying behind the car and transported to a local hospital,” Naidu said in a statement.
She added that the sixth victim, who had already succumbed to his wounds, was found lying a few metres away from the car.
“The victims are aged between 18 and 25, and the police are still seeking their identities.”
Naidu said in the second incident, cops found the bodies of men on Zola Nqini Street at about 12.10pm.
She said two were found inside a silver VW Polo while the third deceased was found lying outside the car.
“All had multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. The victims are estimated to be aged between 32 and 40, and the vehicle was reported stolen in Humansdorp in May,” she said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the murders were under investigation.
“The suspects and motives for the murders are unknown at this stage. Police are investigating a possible link to the two incidents, and two cases of murder with multiple victims will be opened.”
