THE ANC is an organisation of murderers. This scathing remark was made by EFF leader, Julius Malema, at the party’s 10th anniversary rally held at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 29 July.

Malema said it was the ANC that killed Lonmin miners, Thembinkosi Gwelani, Patrick Akhona Jijase, Andries Ntsenyeho, Bonginkosi Yona, Babalo Mtshazi, Jackson Lehupa, Mafolisi Mabiya, Henry Mvuyisi Pato, and Ntandazo Nokhamba. They were killed on 16 August 2012 during the Marikana massacre.

Malema said the massacre gave birth to the EFF. He told the more than 90 000 people at the stadium that the EFF was the only party that can change the lives of people in Mzansi.

”We don’t want load shedding in South Africa. We want reliable electricity in South Africa. Fighters, me and you are going to defeat load shedding. Only the EFF can stop load shedding in South Africa,” he said.

He said South Africa was in a financial crisis and therefore, only the EFF can rescue it. He said state-owned companies such as Eskom were a mess, which proved that the ANC had failed citizens.

“Eskom ke mathata. Mohlagase mo South Africa ke mathata,” said Malema.

He also criticised government for failing to give the people of Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane, clean water, which led to residents contracting Cholera.

Malema said:

Hammanskraal must get clean water. When you give people water, you are not doing them a favour, you are giving them life.

He said the EFF would like to work with Cuba to establish quality primary healthcare to ensure there are proper clinics for people.

Malema added that when he started EFF 10 years ago, many people said it would not last. He said he was told the party would not even get 1% of voters.

“We have arrived where the doomsayers never thought we would. They said we will never achieve 1% of the vote. They said our organisation was formed out of anger and would never last,” he said.

Malema said he needed sunglasses because the future of the EFF is too bright.

“We are taking government in 2024. Stand up South Africa. Rise South Africa. Make sure our people understand that they need to be counted. Freedom in our lifetime. Amandla!” he said.

One of the supporters, Nonhlanhla Lukhele said she travelled from Hazyview in Mpumalanga to show love to her party. She said she has been voting for the EFF since its inception and is hopeful that it will rule the country one day.

"EFF is the only party that advocates for our education, economical freedom and equality as black people," she said.

Nonhlanhla added that the party will be even bigger in the next 10 years.

Another supporter, Sipho Mtshweni (27), said the EFF is a party of the youth and as a young person, he is happy to celebrate its anniversary.

"I love Julius Malema. He is an inspiration for me and my friends," he said.
