THE case against two men linked to Dr Michael Isabelle's murder case has been postponed.

Rufus Thutloa and Matwetwe Gordon Muningi appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Monday, 25 May.

They were arrested last Thursday, 21 March. They're linked to the murder and robbery of the medical doctor at his surgery in Dobsonville, Soweto on 26 February 2024.

Covering their faces with their clothes, the two accused revealed they had been arrested before.

Thutloa revealed to the court that he was once arrested for money laundering and was out on a fine. Muningi said he had been bust for robbery before. They said that they didn't have other pending cases.

The two, who are facing two counts of murder, two counts of possession of unlicenced firearms, robbery and defeating the ends of justice, have asked for a Legal Aid attorney.

The court informed the accused that they have a right to apply for bail. However, it will take seven days for the police to verify personal details such as addresses.

The matter was postponed to 2 April for bail information.

Family friend and spokeswoman, Unathi Mabandla, told Daily Sun the accused were still suspects until proven guilty.

“As South Africans, we need to start developing the trust and belief in our justice system. Let everybody do what they must do. Let the justice system do what it can do,” she said.

She alleged that as a family they hadn’t been told anything about the arrest of the suspects. She said they only heard about it on the radio.

“However, the police are not accountable to us. When they're ready, they'll probably come back to us and say how far they are and what they gathered so far. We will hear from them when they're ready to communicate,” she told Daily Sun.

Unathi said the family was trying to pick up the pieces.

“It’s one step at a day. It's not like you can live the rest of your life with somebody and all the sudden the person is not there. Life can’t be normal as it used to be, and it can’t be expected to be normal,” she said.
