A BOY was on his way home from a public toilet when two dogs pounced on him and started biting.
Luckily, the SunTeam was in the area covering a story and came to the boy’s rescue, throwing stones at the dogs until they ran away.
The father (43) of the 10-year-old boy from Jeffsville squatter camp, near Atteridgeville in Tshwane, said the incident on Wednesday left his son traumatised.
He said residents had been complaining about the dangerous dogs for weeks, but nothing was done. The boy’s mum said: “The kids have been telling us about the dogs, that they fear them, but we never thought they’d get bitten one day.”
She said the dogs roamed the kasi and no one knew their owner. “Imagine what could have happened if no one was there. The dogs could have killed my son.”
Community leader Samuel Masilela said: “The dogs have bitten people before and we called the SPCA to take them because they might kill someone. We don’t even know owns these dogs.”

SPCA public relations officer Keshvi Nair said: “If a community feels unsafe because of an aggressive animal or a dog keeps escaping the owner’s property, the community needs to report it to the local municipality so they can enforce their by-laws.
“When it comes to the removal of animals, the SPCA can remove them if there are welfare concerns, if the owner agrees to surrender the animals or if a court has ordered the animal must be removed.”
