FAMILY, friends and classmates gathered during a memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of Dimpho Monareng.

The service was held at Bokamoso Secondary School in Seshego, Limpopo, on Thursday, December 7.

Dimpho (14) was a grade 8 pupil at the school, and she was allegedly hit by a racing car on Monday, 4 December, near Beach Front Park in Seshego.

Her classmates and friends shed tears of sorrow as they remembered their peer whose life was cut short.

Her friend, Ditshepiso Motimele (14), said they still haven't accepted that she's gone, and she doesn't know how long it will take to get over her death.

"We are very hurt, and It's sad for us to accept that she is no more. She made a difference in our lives. She was a sister and a great teammate. We will always remember her every time we enter the school. Her kindness towards us meant a lot," she said.

School principal Titus Setlau said Dimpho was talented and had many gifts.

"It pains me to realise that we were raising a child whose life would be cut short. She loved people and was very respectful. We are aggrieved and disgruntled. We are sad because of this reckless driving in our country, as it's taking the lives of young ones. Let's take care of our lives out there because we have got people who act like hooligans without thinking about the lives of others," he said.

Ward councillor Khutso Mailula said they are saddened by the death.

"We will work hard in making sure that justice prevails because we can't lose a soul in this manner," he said.

Dimpho's mom, Lerato, said they appeal for prayers. "We are facing a difficult time, and we are hurt. We are thankful for the words of comfort. We thank the support and hope that we will get it until we bury our child," she said.

They then led a peaceful march to the scene where she tragically died to light candles and place flowers.

Dimpho will be buried on Saturday, 16 December, at Tickyline village outside Tzaneen.
