AS someone who can communicate with the ancestors, Boitumelo Setuke (38) told the SunTeam she was told she would find precious treasure hidden in the yard.

This is at the home where her grandparents used to live in Kanana Village near Rustenburg, North West.

Victor Mathefeng (44), who is also a traditional healer, said he was instructed by the spirits to inform his girlfriend to dig around where she would find treasure with money. The couple met in 2019.

“The message came from her deceased grandfather. He was very specific. He gave directions about the space where she should dig,” Victor said.

“We did not hesitate. We started digging and a few days later, we discovered a big mining rock.”

He said they could see the rock contained minerals from the way it looked.

“We have samples of the rock, and believe there could be more around the yard,” he said, adding that they needed guidance about what to do with it.

“We were told we must take it for observation at a laboratory. However, this needs money we do not have as we are both unemployed.”

Head of stakeholder engagement at Impala Platinum Mine Tina Malau said they undertook an investigation in January and the outcomes revealed what they had discovered was a typical Norite rock.

“It is not a type that is normally mined. Laboratory tests can be done, but it is of no use or value as it (testing) is costly.”

She said the rock must be viewed as ordinary, considering that the area itself was rocky.

“It is of no mining significance for the purposes of the mine. Impala Platinum sees no need to investigate further,” said Tina.
