SEVERAL women braved the rainy weather in Cape Town to attend the Heritage Day celebrations held in Leiden, Delft on Sunday, 24 September.

The event was organised by Masakhane Zimbokodo Women Empowerment under the theme, Zingce Mxhohosa Ngesintu Sakho.

Organiser and founder of the organisation Nosethu "Makoti President" Manxilana said she decided to bring women together to have fun and teach each other the importance of their heritage.

'We are dressed to kill today. We teach each other about our heritage. My message is that as women we must always stick together, love ourselves and love and respect others. As women, we must always support each other," said Manxilana.

Another participant, Nomsa Mdumane (34), said she felt empowered to meet other women and discuss her heritage.

"Despite the weather, it was a great opportunity to meet other women and talk about our marriages and heritage," she said.

During the event, people ate traditional food and sang and danced while wearing their imibhaco (traditional dress). Several Heritage Day events planned in Cape Town were disrupted by cold weather and rain.
