LOAD SHEDDING could be resolved this year.
This is according to Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
He told the MPs during his questions and answers session in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday, 12 March, that the government is working towards fixing the electricity crisis.
“You’ll be surprised that we may resolve that problem as early as this year. I won’t give details now, but we are getting there. It is going to be something of the past,” said Mashatile.
ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula claimed that load-shedding would end in December 2023.
But he backtracked and said he knew nothing about electricity.
On the water crisis, Mashatile said parliament was processing the South African National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency SOC Limited Bill to establish a national water resource agency that would undertake design planning, financing and development of the national water resource infrastructure.

“As government, we will continue to work tirelessly to assist municipalities who are water services authorities to meet their constitutional obligations to provide reliable water and sanitation services to all South African citizens."
Mashatile urged South Africans to work with the government to protect infrastructure from criminals.
He said they were on the ground fixing things while the opposition was complaining.
Mashatile said they must not dismiss initiatives like Izimbizo and the District Development Model.
“Our government is at work, whether there’s an election or not. The people must benefit.
“We are changing the lives of our people for the better. You must go out there and see the millions of houses we are building. People are benefiting when under apartheid, they did not get those resources," he said.
