ITUMELENG Nthalane’s tough journey in life has prompted her to write a book.

The 21-year-old said the book, The Chara Child, warns people about the challenges they could face in life.

Itumeleng, who is originally from Makurung Village in Ga-Mphahlele, Limpopo and now lives in Seshego zone 1 outside Polokwane, started writing the book in 2019. She took the chara plant as a symbol because it’s a multi-cellular plant that has different functions. She compares her life’s journey with the plant.

She said the book tells the story of a woman who lived and tasted poverty and abuse at its roots.

“Sally, the character in the book, doesn’t have any luck with relationships. She suffers emotional and physical abuse. Sally also has to overcome cancer and people abandon her but she ends up overcoming all her challenges.”

She said she also included men in her book as they also face challenges. “Some men suffer depression and commit suicide because they are afraid to speak about their problems,” she said.
