POLICE have made an arrest in a case of a police officer who was gunned down while having a haircut in Bramley View, Joburg last month.

A 55-year-old alleged murderer is expected to appear in the Alexander Magistrate's Court on Monday, 19 September 2022.

Police spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha said in a statement, “The Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation has linked the arrested suspect to the murder case of Warrant Officer Soldier Charles Mgimba (51), on the afternoon of Friday, 26 August 2022, in Bramley View.

“The incident occurred at the corners of Keefe and Gelden Streets. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was at a Barber cutting his hair when an unknown gunman shot him on the forehead under mysterious circumstances.”

Ramovha said a swift probe ensued, leaving no stone unturned.

“A vehicle suspected to have been a getaway vehicle was identified. The said vehicle was consequently traced to the same neighbourhood.

“On Thursday, 15 September 2022, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted led by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, in concert with K9, Metro Police, Local Criminal Record Centre and Saturated Unit.”

He said the suspect was consequently arrested at his residence.

“A firearm suspected to have been used in the incident was also seized, it is now a subject of a ballistic enquiry pending further details,” said Ramovha.
