Oscar Pistorius is set to be released from prison, 11 years after murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The convicted murderer is serving a 13-year sentence for the Valentine’s Day 2013 killing. Pistorius became eligible for parole in March 2023, having served half of his sentence.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) approved his parole on November 24, with his release effective from the mentioned date.
Following his release, he will be subject to general parole conditions, monitored by the DCS until his sentence expires in 2029. These conditions include specific home-hour requirements and a prohibition on alcohol and other prohibited substances.
Additionally, Pistorius is mandated to participate in compulsory programmes, such as gender-based violence initiatives and anger management therapy.
Similar to other parolees, he is barred from engaging in media interviews.
