A R11 million investment has been made in livestock farming in the City of Tshwane to enhance beef production in Rust de Winter.
The investment coordinated by the city's Environment and Agriculture Management Department will help at least 15 livestock farmers in Ward 99 and cover the construction of 15 cattle-handling facilities.
The project would also assure optimal beef cattle-handling methods by boosting farm worker safety when dealing with animals, improving animal welfare, lowering animal stress, and increasing farm efficiency.
The financing comes from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development.

Ziyanda Zwane, MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management said that two construction companies benefited from this project, while 40 job opportunities were created during the construction phase.
"Eight cattle-handling facilities have been completed to date. The city will continue to support farmers in ensuring the growth and sustainability of the industry in collaboration with key stakeholders in the agriculture sector," Zwane said.
Additionally, Health MMC Rina Marx said the city has already put measures in place to ensure a quick response to potential cholera cases after the national Department of Health issued an advisory urging South Africans to be prepared in light of the ongoing cholera outbreak in neighbouring countries, most notably Zimbabwe.
