THE City of Ekurhuleni will host an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, 11 April, to elect a new mayor.
The meeting is called in terms of Rule 18 of the Council Standing Orders By-Law to elect a mayor following the passing of the motion of no confidence against former mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana, in the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 28 March.
This comes after ActionSA brought a motion of no confidence against him.
Forty-seven council members voted in favour of the motion, while 32 voted against it.

On Wednesday, 10 April, the SACP Central Committee member and national spokesman, Dr Alex Mashilo, said instability that plagues Ekurhuleni under the current and previous government needed to be addressed.
“They don't want the government to come to them and say we're delivering as the government. Our people want to participate in the production and provision of public goods and services that we must promote.
ANC Ekurhuleni deputy chairman, Jongizizwe Dlabathi was mum when he was asked by the media on Wednesday if there are any talks between the ANC and EFF regarding the election of a new mayor.
"Once the leadership of the ANC has decided on how we must move, we'll take it from there.
"All I can assure you is that on Thursday, 11 April, during a council meeting, a new mayor will be elected, and we're not in negotiation with the EFF regarding executive positions," said Dlabathi.
