EKURHULENI Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana’s future is hanging in the balance.
He will face a vote of no confidence on Thursday, 29 February.
ActionSA caucus leader Siyanda Makhubo said they submitted a motion against Ngodwana earlier this month in a bid to save the city from the looming financial collapse and service delivery, which has hit an all-time low.
“Following the programming committee meeting on Friday, we are one step closer to seeing desperately needed wholesale changes to Ekurhuleni’s top political leadership, as our motion has successfully gone through,” said Makhubo.
He claimed that under Ngodwana’s leadership, the city’s finances deteriorated, with cash on hand at record lows.

It's alleged that service delivery has grinded to a halt as service providers are not paid and a waste crisis continues to plague communities.
He claimed that Ngodwana was ignoring a council resolution on insourcing as well as failing to implement the lifestyle audit.
“Mayor Ngodwana will forever be known in Ekurhuleni as the 'puppet mayor' who allowed the EFF to wreak havoc on the city’s finances and administration,” said Makhubo.
He said Ngodwana's reluctance to hold the EFF accountable, particularly in the case of an infamous "blue-light crash" involving an EFF councillor, further proves governance failures.
“ActionSA urges political parties to put aside their differences and support this motion to save our city,” he said.
The mayor was elected in March 2023, with the help of the ANC, EFF and the so-called Super 7 minority parties including the ATM, ICM, PAC, Cope, UDM, AIC and IRSASA.
Ngodwana has already brushed off concerns about the motion and labelled it a publicity stunt.
“It doesn’t scare me at all. I'll continue doing my work as I've been doing to serve the community of Ekurhuleni,” he said.
