ACTIONSA wants Sivuyile Ngodwana removed as Ekurhuleni mayor.
The party has submitted a motion of no confidence against Ngodwana and his team of MMCs in a bid to “save” Ekurhuleni from the brink of collapse.
ActionSA caucus leader, Siyanda Makhubo, said the ANC leader’s election service delivery and the city’s financial standing have deteriorated.
“We've been a vocal opponent to Ngodwana’s disastrous tenure as mayor, which saw the EFF join the city’s political leadership for the first time. It was clear that Ngodwana was installed as a compromise between the ANC and the EFF, and we can't idly sit by and watch as he fails to govern,” he said.
Makhubo claimed that under Ngodwana’s leadership, the city’s finances deteriorated, with cash on hand at record lows.

He said service delivery has suffered, with unpaid service providers exacerbating a waste removal crisis ekasi.
The mayor was elected in March 2023, with the help of the ANC, EFF and the so-called Super 7 minority parties including the ATM, ICM, PAC, Cope, UDM, AIC and IRSASA.
Makhubo said Ngodwana has been ignoring a council resolution on insourcing as well as failing to implement a lifestyle audit.
He claimed the mayor failed to implement council's resolution on hijacked buildings which continues to pose a health and safety risk for abahlali.
Makhubo slammed the EFF for hindering service delivery and failure to implement fiscal controls while holding important portfolios.
He said Ngodwana's reluctance to hold the EFF accountable, particularly in the case of an infamous 'blue-light crash' involving an EFF councillor, further proves governance failures.
The motion will now serve before council’s programming committee, and once approved, it will be tabled at the council meeting for a vote later this month.
Ngodwana brushed off concerns about the motion and labelled it a publicity stunt.
“It doesn’t scare me, at all. I'll continue doing my work as I've been doing to serve the community of Ekurhuleni,” he said.
He said it was election season and some political parties would use anything to be relevant.
“The motion is not even on programming. They're using my name as their campaign tool.” said Ngodwana.
