THERE was chaos in court as Bokgabo Poo’s father Irvin Ndlovu tried to moer the man accused of her murder during court proceedings.

“How could you do this to my child?” said the father, whose daughter was found mutilated.

The 30-year-old suspect appeared before the Benoni Magistrates Court on Monday, 17 October.

He was charged with kidnapping, murder, rape, violation of a corpse and defeating the ends of justice.

The state opposed bail and he will appear again on 24 October.

Bokgabo’s stepfather, Johannes Sibiya, who had been living with four-year-old since she was one, told Daily Sun that he is beyond devastated and he hoped that justice would be served.

He said the last image of Bokgabo, which was the footage of her following the suspect, disturbed him deeply.

“She was an intelligent child who questioned everything so I’m still wondering how this man was able to take her away,” said Johannes.

He also described Bokgabo as a sweet child who was always bubbly and friendly to everyone.

“To say I’m hurt would really be an understatement. Bokgabo was everything to me and a piece of me has died with her,” he said.

“Hopefully, the pressure that the community is putting on the police will help us get justice,” he said.

The community of Wattville came in their numbers to support the family and to put a stop to criminal activities happening in Wattville.

Councillor Siyanda Makhubo has asked the residents to follow-up on every court date until justice was served.

He said what irritated him the most was that the accused showed no remorse.

He said the accused also had a rape case against him.

“We’re questioning why he was even out, wandering the streets of Wattville while he’s attending to such a serious case,” said Makhubo.

Makhubo encouraged the residents of Ekurhuleni to come together and end crime.

“The fact that he has money to be represented by a private lawyer is another thing that irritates us,” said Makhubo.

Resident Mavis Mabena said this really took a toll on the community because Wattville was not used to such cases.

She said they would attend every proceeding until justice was served.

“He’d better pray that he remains in jail because if they let him out, the community will deal with him decisively,” said Mavis.
