TWO suspects, aged 25 and 43, were denied bail by the Bushbuckridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 28 December.

Alberto Fundzama and Marcelino Langa were not asked to plead while appearing for possession of two Toyota Hilux bakkies suspected to be stolen.

Magistrate Ayesha Kikia asked one of them how he got injured on the eye, and he said he was beaten up by cops.

“If you’re injured by the police, you have the right to lay charges against them for assaulting you,” said Kikia.

Both suspects asked the court to help them communicate with their families in Mozambique for legal council arrangements.

This after public prosecutor Steyn Mkhonto opposed bail.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the suspects were bust while trying to avoid police operations by going into the Kruger National Park, where they had a nice time at the Afsaal picnic.

But, the tracker had picked up the signal for one car.

It alerted the police and park security personnel, who intercepted one of the vehicles.

“Upon interception, the suspect would not go down alone.

“He revealed another stolen car at the area, leading to the arrest of the second suspect.”

Mohlala said both cars were reported stolen in Delmas and Daveyton.

The matter was postponed to 4 January.
