THE one minute, the family members were sleeping peacefully – the next minute they had a car in their house!

Nonceba Tholobadi (48) from Khayelitsha told Daily Sun she was asleep when she heard a huge bang just after midnight on Friday, 5 August.

“The kids came and told me there was a car in the dining room. Residents had to help me out the house.”

She said her children got out on their own but her daughter wasn’t there. “I broke into tears because I thought my child was under the car,” she said.

But then they heard a cry for help from under the broken shack near the front of the car. Residents quickly removed the broken zinc sheets and found Nonceba’s daughter Neliswa (13).

“We called an ambulance, but it needed an escort so we hired a car and took her to the hospital.”

Nonceba said residents opened the car doors and found a wheelchair-bound driver accompanied by a woman.

“They promised to fix our shack but bought 10 zinc sheets and are telling me stories about replacing my fridges, stovesand cupboards. It cost me to buy those things again.”

Nonceba said they did not call cops to the scene because they feared that if he was arrested he was not going to fix the shack.

She said the man begged them not to involve cops.

“Now we’re calling him every day because he is not doing what he promised.

“My family is starving. I used to stock meat I sold on the streets and now I can’t do that.”

When SunTeam called the man, he said he had bought the building material. “I’m still looking for more money to do more,” he said.
