A 27-YEAR-OLD business owner was arrested on Friday, 24 March at about 11am. 

He was arrested at East End Industrial Park in Bloemfontein, Free State.

He was bust for the possession of suspected fong kong booze and cigarettes. 

He will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon.

He faces charges of fraud, contravention of the Consumer Protection Act, contravention of the Immigration Act and other related contraventions.

"Liquor suspected to be counterfeit valued at about R1 million and illicit cigarettes were discovered at a liquor distributor," said police spokesman Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli. 

According to Kareli, the businessman was nabbed following an intelligence led and multi-disciplinary operation spearheaded by the Free State provincial organised crime unit.

It was done in conjunction with crime intelligence, the provincial tracing team, the tactical response team, cyber crime, the Department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) and South African Revenue Service (Customs).
