A MUM has had enough of pupils bullying her child.

She said her son, who is a grade 9 pupil, has endured bullying since last year. The 38-year-old mum from Maologane Village outside Rustenburg, North West told Daily Sun he’s being bullied because of his sexuality.

“My child is gay and fellow pupils call him names. One time they undressed him in front of everyone,” she said.

She said the bullying got worse when her 15-year-old son started wearing a skirt to school.

“He doesn’t want to go to school. He is depressed and suicidal. I am afraid of losing my child because of this,” she said.

The mum said they reported the matter to the principal, but the school hasn’t taken any action.

“My child recently got into a fight with one of the bullies and the school suspended him. Violence is never a solution, but my concern is that the school didn’t act when we reported the bullying, but they were quick to suspend my son when he was only responding to the bullying.”

The boy said he’s not coping.

He said it was painful that the school is failing him.

“The bullies are free to say and do anything to me because no one reprimands them. I try to stand up for myself, but it’s hard to overpower bullies,” he said.

North West Education spokesman Elias Malindi said they received Daily Sun’s inquiry and will engage with the relevant office. “We’ve circulated the inquiry to management in the area for a response,” said Malindi.
