WHEN Build One South Africa (Bosa) is in government, every household will have food on the table.
This is a commitment made by Bosa president Mmusi Maimane on Thursday, 7 March, outside the IEC offices in Tshwane.
He said that his party will contest the 29 May 2024 general elections after collecting 140 000 signatures, surpassing the minimum threshold of 60 000.
Maimane said unemployment was at a crisis point in Mzansi.
“This remains a crisis. If you want to violate someone’s dignity, ensure that they are without a job and face poverty. Poverty ultimately robs citizens of dignity and dignity is one of those rights enshrined in our constitution. We may dare never deviate from them,” he said.
Last month, Bosa unveiled its Jobs Plan, a blueprint it claims will build a South Africa that works.
The plan aims to create new jobs, generate wealth, and foster a vibrant growing economy.
Maimane said: “Our Jobs Plan has four parts. Growing the economy for jobs. Reforming education for jobs. Building a capable state for jobs. And creating a safe environment for jobs.
"To support economic growth and job creation, our Jobs Plan spells out how Bosa will overhaul the education system to be modern and skills-aligned, create a safer environment by radically reducing crime, and support this with a capable, efficient and merit-based government that gets on with doing the job.”

He said every South African understands the importance of this year’s elections that it was make or break, as the outcome will shape the direction of Mzansi for decades to come.
“The ANC is barely clinging to power as they fight and steal, while opposition parties have all chosen their ‘slice of the cake’, be it a racial, religious, linguistic or ethnic grouping.
“There's a large cohort of sensible South Africans in the centre, looking to vote for a credible vision, a concrete plan and trustworthy leaders. Bosa exists for these citizens, and we possess each of these qualities,” he said.
Bosa has approved 120 candidates to stand for election under its name.
Maimane said: “We will be submitting 19 lists to the IEC, one national-to-national, nine regional-to-national and nine regional-to-regional. These lists will be publicly available on the IEC website.”
He said Bosa was now established nationally in all nine provinces, with a leader who has a national appeal and candidates that are fresh, talented and ready to build.
Maimane boasted that it was a unique offer that no other new party could match.
“Our door remains open, and we wish to call on all other parties, formations and community groups to join us as we mount this challenge to the old political guard and seek to win this year’s elections and work to build a united, prosperous South Africa."
