State Capture whistle-blower Vytjie Mentor dies after long illness.

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has announced the death of one of its members Vytjie Mentor.

In a statement, Mashaba said they have just learnt of the passing of Vytjie Mentor and extends its most heartfelt condolences to the Mentor family for their loss.

He said Mentor has been ill for some time and on Tuesday, 23 August her family called to inform them that she had succumbed to her illness after being hospitalised for several months.

"It should not be forgotten that Mentor was the first to sound the alarm on what we call today State Capture," he said.

Mashaba described her as a true patriot who served her country even in the face of criticism

"We will keep the family and friends of Vytjie in our thoughts and prayers and ask her loved ones to be given privacy to grieve during this time," said Mashaba.

Mentor served as ANC Member of Parliament and also as a chairwoman of the portfolio committee on public works.

She came into the spotlight in March 2016 when she claimed that the Gupta family offered her a post as a minister.

She is part of the first group of people to give their testimonies in the State Capture Commission.

She later joined the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) in 2019 before joining ActionSA as its Provincial Chairwoman in the Western Cape in 2020.
