THE Rise of Women in Boxing was launched in Matlosana, Klerksdorp on Saturday, 16 September.

The tournament was launched by Boxing South Africa (BSA) in collaboration with the City of Matlosana, North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR), Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and African Child Boxing Promotion.

The tournament will be held at the Matlosana Banquet Hall in Klerksdorp tonight Saturday, 16 September and entry is free.

This is where we will see the bantamweight, flyweight together with the catchweight and its supporters under the hawk-eye of the internationally renowned referee, Judge and Commissioner Sylvia Mokaila.

The Matlosana Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor James Tsolela who welcomed everyone will also be with the BSA Acting CEO Ntsikayezwe Sithole, African Child Promoter Mahlatsi Sediane, ACSR HOD Itumeleng Mogorosi and others.

The launch is aimed to elevate and empower women in the boxing space and as a build-up for the all-female international boxing tournament.

It will feature participants from provinces across the country and some from African countries.

African Child Promoter Mahlatsi Sediane encouraged women to look into boxing as she believes in giving women equal opportunities in the sport.

"The tournament is set to encourage both women inside and outside the ring to be part of the boxing fraternity," Sediane said.
